::.My spouse is in poor health...
Is your spouse in poor health? This can deplete your finances, cause worries about the future, and strain your respective mental and physical energies. Kent Kinzley, M.F.C.C., Clinical Director of the Psychological and Family Services, Fuller Graduate School has some suggestions to help you cope with this quality of life issue.
The Solution
Ask for help: Be pro-active. This is your best chance to manage your difficult situation, says Kinzley. If you need help around the house, ask friends or relatives to pitch in.
Do your homework: Get online or go to your local library and find out what kind of social services are available to you.
Join support groups: If your spouse has a condition that has a national research organization devoted to it (such as the Alzheimer's Association) consider joining it--go to meetings in your area for information and support.
Make a budget: "Figure out how you can budget for medical care now and in the future," Kinzley urges. Write down your plan and refer to it on a weekly basis. Control the situation instead of letting it control you.
