::.I have no idea how I am going to care for my aging parents... As you witness your parents aging, you start to wonder how you'll be able to help care for them. Can you afford caregiving? Can they afford it? This issue can cause you to experience varying degrees of guilt, anxiety, and fears about the future.
The Solution
Analyze your finances: Sit down with your spouse and take a realistic look at your finances. Do you have a savings account, a retirement plan, other investments or assets? Discuss what kind of financial contributions you might have to make in the future.
Assess your availability: Discuss with your spouse the kind of time contributions you can expect to make in the future. Ask questions: would you and your spouse be willing to help care for your parents in your home? If you don't have that kind of availability, then could you afford any kind of living facilities or nursing homes?
Plan ahead: "It is essential that you discuss these matters well before your parents become frail or ill," says Kinzley.
