“Zardozi Markets for Afghan Artisans” (Formally Dacaar Sewing Center) is a non profit organization managed by and for Afghan refugee women. The Center was established in 1984 and it is situated in Peshawar, Pakistan. The primary objective of the Center is to provide Afghan women with an income, so they can support themselves and their families within the accepted constraints of Afghan culture. The second objective is to keep Afghans culture and traditions alive by using embroidery patterns based on ancient Afghan design. The hand embroidery is made by Afghan women living in different camps in Pakistan. Each item has its own individual style. The embroidery into a great variety of beautiful items, such bags, shawals, hats and traditional dresses.
