Stress and tiredness are the chief culprits in quashing sexual desire. Stress releases chemicals into the brain that are known to dampen sexual desire, while tiredness can lead to sex that is unsatisfying and boring.
Follow these tips to keep desire alive.
Try to conquer stress
Take a long look at your lifestyle in order to help you eliminate stress. If you hate your job, bite the bullet and think about doing something that would make you happier.
Simplify your life where possible. Cut out those things that you do out of habit rather than because you want to. Ask yourself if you are living to work, or working to live.
Get to Bed!
Avoid staying up watching cable TV for hours on end. Give yourself a bedtime and stick to it. Once a week, turn in early and have an hour of cuddling and laughing with your partner.
Trying to make love at midnight when you are exhausted will mean you end up with a ten-minute fumble rather than a luxurious lovemaking experience earlier in the evening.
Get physical
Even gentle exercise will help you to feel good about yourself. Exercise encourages sexual desire because it enables you to feel more aware of, and in touch, with your body. A daily twenty-minute walk can make a lot of difference.
Be nostalgic
Allow yourself to revisit your teenage feelings about sex. It's likely that you spent at least some of your teen years trying to pretend you weren't aroused! Remember what turned you on and enjoy the memories.
Be affectionate
Be affectionate with your partner. Hug and kiss at the start and end of the day. Sit next to each other on the sofa and hold each other.
Enjoy caressing and snogging before you go to sleep at night. Affection oils the wheels of sexual desire and can revive sexual feelings if you regularly show your partner how important they are to you.
Explore your body
If you find you shower in a frantic rush, take some time to touch your own body. Enjoy the tactile sensations as you feel your skin beneath the soapy water.
Invite your partner to join you in the shower or bath and have fun exploring each other's body.
